Lloyd Stubbs launched his TaxAssist Accountants franchise in November 2008. He runs his practice from a shop in Grantham and office in Newark.

I was looking at my options for how to proceed, including looking at going down the franchise route. This appealed to me because all the systems and processes would already be in place, allowing me to concentrate on building the business and delivering the service.

When looking at accountancy franchises, TaxAssist Accountants were ‘head and shoulders’ above the rest in terms of their offering, professionalism and straightforward approach.

From day one the support has always been excellent. The technical support provided for myself initially, and now my staff team, has allowed us to deliver a service on a par with larger firms while keeping the personal approach of a smaller firm, that our clients seem to really appreciate.

There have been ups and downs along the way, as all businesses experience, but I’m pleased to say that we have built a thriving business that I feel proud of.

It is rewarding to be able to offer a professional, friendly, cost-effective accountancy and tax service to the local small business community and to get the feedback from clients who value our service.

We have built a team of people who want to offer our clients a good service and it is a pleasure to work with them. Although it can be busy and challenging at times, they all say they enjoy coming to work here (and I think they mean it!).

Lockdowns caused huge global disruption, but I’m pleased to report that we managed to navigate our way through with minimal loss of clients or drop in sales and new business has continued to flow our way. In fact, we’ve had a marked increase in interest in our services, with over a 10% net growth in fee bank over the last 12 months.

We currently service around 400 clients and I’m still looking to expand and may consider purchasing a fee bank from a retiring accountant if one becomes available in my territory.

I have no plans to retire any time soon. But I know that when the time comes, I will have a valuable asset to sell, a well-run business with an excellent team of staff.
